I think it helps to break any rifle barrel in. There are a lot of pros and cons on this issue but I have proven to my own satisfaction that it makes a big Testing a 23" barrel, a 20" barrel and a 16" barrel to see how they affect volocety in the 17 hmr rimfire. .
